No floor test in TN Assembly till September 20, orders HC

The Madras High Court on Thursday restrained Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from holding a floor test till Wednesday since Advocate General Vijay Narayan sought time till then to obtain instructions from the Governor on DMK’s plea to hold the test at the earliest.

Karti refuses to appear before CBI in Aircel-Maxis case

Karti Chidambaram on Thursday refused to appear before the CBI in the Aircel-Maxis case, his lawyer said. The agency had called Mr. Karti for questioning on September 14 in connection with the foreign investment clearance given in 2006 in the Aircel-Maxis deal when his father P. Chidambaram was the Finance Minister.

India sends relief materials for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

India on Thursday sent 53 tonnes of relief materials to Bangladesh for Rohingya Muslim refugees from Myanmar, who poured into this country following the ethnic violence in the neighbouring Buddhist-majority nation. The first consignment of India’s assistance comes days after Dhaka briefed New Delhi about the problems arising due to the influx of Rohingya refugees.

14 live bombs recovered in Howrah

Fourteen live bombs were on Thursday recovered from a shop in Howrah district, where a man was injured in an explosion on Wednesday, police said. Bomb squad personnel, during the search in the shop this morning, found the explosives, a police officer said.

Google to launch mobile payment service in India

Tech giant Google is slated to unveil a digital payment service in India next week that has been developed for the local market, according to industry sources. In July, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) had said Google had completed the testing of its UPI payment service and was awaiting Reserve Bank of India’s approval to launch its service in the country.
