Two powerful bombs exploded at Ningombam in the Thoubal Assembly constituency, the stronghold of Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, around midnight on Saturday.
However, there was no casualty in the blasts, alleged to be part of the continuing campaign by the CorCom (Co-ordination Committee) of seven proscribed underground organisations against Congress candidates.
The CorCom — of the UNLF, the RPF, the KCP, the PREPAK, the PREPAK(Pro), the KYKL and the UPPK — had “banned” the Congress from contesting the Assembly elections, alleging that it was “anti-people and anti-revolutionary.” Besides, it played a major role in the merger of Manipur with the Indian Union.
