The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is confident of emerging as the party with the single largest majority in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. On Saturday, party patriarch L K Advani said the chances of a hung Parliament are bleak as the BJP will come to power with it's highest-ever tally so far.
He said the Congress's performance on the other hand will be determined by its poor governance record and the rampant corruption that had become the hallmark of the UPA-II's rule.
The BJP veteran said the mood in the county is in favour of the BJP and against the Congress-led UPA. He said the Congress, which has dominated the country's political scene since Independence will emerge as the "weakest" in the upcoming election.
The party was also dismissive of the Third Front. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said the idea of an alternative front is a "failed idea". He said the aligning of several parties to form a Third Front is not a "setback" for the BJP.
"We will try to get a majority on our own. Allies will be sought out after the elections. The Third Front is a failed idea, it is an experiment that has been tried before and always fails. This country cannot afford the luxury of a failed idea."
