Bharatiya Janata Party's national spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Sunday welcomed the decision of yoga guru Baba Ramdev to call off his fast but asserted that the crusade against corruption and black money would continue.
At a press conference here, Mr. Rudy accused the Congress of trying to portray all those fighting corruption as enemies of the nation. He charged the Congress leaders with attempting to communalise the issue of corruption, ‘which was hitting the Congress-led UPA government very hard. “The action of the ruling party in the last few days amply demonstrates the insensitivity of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the government.”
The country was at the brink of social turmoil and the Congress would be fully responsible for aggravating the situation. The ‘evil designs' of the Congress would stand exposed, he said.
Mr. Rudy criticised Dr. Singh for maintaining silence over the recent acquittal of Pakistani-Canadian businessman Tahawwur Hussain Rana by a U.S. court in the Mumbai terror attack case.
He said the judgment dashed the hopes of the Government of India to nail Pakistan's ISI or of getting Laskhar intelligence operative David Headley and Rana extradited. “This is one of the biggest setbacks for our country.” The government should intervene as the whole evidence was probably not positioned. He also wondered whether it was a cover-up provided by the FBI to the ISI or whether it was a policy to pacify Pakistan after the killing of Osama bin Laden.
On the draft Communal Violence Bill, he said the BJP was concerned about it. He said it was of “full of venom.”
Touching upon Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Jaipal Reddy's comments on sub-regionalism and nationalism, he said it was clear that the Congress was not in favour of creating a Telangana State.
Mr. Rudy expressed concern over the killing of senior crime journalist J. Dey in Mumbai and sought protection to journalists and their families.
