Senior BJP leader Prakash Javdekar asked Congress to desist from attacking Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's marital issue.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday warned the Congress to desist from attacking its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi over his marital issues.

“We are fighting these polls on the issues of corruption and inflation. If the Congress wants to bring in personal issues in it, we too can expose various issues related to the Gandhis, to which they will have no answer,” warned the BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar at the press conference held here.

While referring to Congress Vice-president >Rahul Gandhi’s attack over Mr. Modi’s acceptance of his marital status for the first time, Mr. Javadekar said that unprecedented response to the voting has unsettled the Congress.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that the Congress will lose badly. As a result they are launching personal attacks,” he said, adding that the National Democratic Alliance would win more than 300 seats.

The BJP leader claimed that Mr. Modi had never lied about his marital status. “Not mentioning her name in the past was actually extending an honour to the lady,” he said. Mr. Javadekar also said that raising such issues will boomerang on the Congress.

The BJP has also attacked the Congress for not condemning the Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. Referring to the Shakti Mills rape cases in Mumbai, where death penalty has been awarded to the three culprits, Mr. Yadav had said that boys commit mistakes at times but that does not mean that they should be sent to the gallows.
