The Bharatiya Janta Party has announced a cash assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to the gang-rape victim, undergoing treatment at the Safdarjung Hospital.

State unit president Vijender Gupta on Saturday urged the medical superintendent of the hospital, to constitute a ‘Victim and Family Relief Fund’ to offer help to the girl and her family members.

Mr. Gupta was critical of the Delhi government’s response to the incident and accused the administration of being “insensitive and negligent.”

“In the status report filed by the government in the Delhi High Court, it has been stated that treatment is going on in a superspeciality hospital in a satisfactory manner. Before this, the Chief Minister said that if needed, the victim may be sent abroad for intestine transplantation. It is done only in three countries — the U.S., Canada and Britain. This transplant should certainly be done because, otherwise, the victim’s quality of life will be worth nothing,” Mr. Gupta said.

He said the Delhi government had long ago promised GPS system and CCTV cameras in all buses and made it mandatory for all drivers and conductors to wear uniforms and badges.
