The BJP will require 370 seats in Parliament to address its core issues such as abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Uniform Civil Code in India and construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, party president Amit Shah said on Tuesday while highlighting the party's achievements in it’s first year in power.
Asked whether the party had given up on its core issues, Mr. Shah shot back: “BJP is running the Central government as part of the National Democratic Alliance. As per the Constitution we need 370 to address our core issues. Please read the Constitution.’’
He was speaking to journalists on the occasion of the completion of one year of Narendra Modi government.
At present the party has 281 members in a House of 545 in Lok Sabha and is in a minority in the Rajya Sabha. It has made it difficult for the government to get approval for its key legislations such as the Land Acquisition Bill and the Good and Services Tax Bill which have been referred to committees.
