New BJP president Amit Shah wants the cadres to cultivate “hunger for victory” and aim for an “absolute majority” in the coming Assembly polls in four States, as that would be the formula for fulfilling the party’s ambition of a “Congress-mukt Bharat [Congress-free India].”
“Winning mantra”
“Assembly elections are coming in the four States — Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand — and we have to win these with an absolute majority. Our historic victory marks the beginning of the end of the Congress era. Our taking over the reins of power at the Centre is of great historic significance. We entered the election fray with the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and emerged victorious,” Mr. Shah said.
The Congress also came in for attack from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Smarting from the Congress’ accusation that the BJP was stoking communal violence in the country, Mr. Modi cautioned party workers that “those who followed vote bank politics are engaged in destroying the fabric of our society”.
“The BJP never accepts incidents [of violence] which are taking place in the country. Peace, unity and harmony are the pre-requisites for progress and there will be no compromise on them,” he said.
The two leaders also attacked the Congress for “compromising” India's interests at the WTO.
