Bharatiya Janata Party MP Dinu Bogha Solanki was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for his alleged involvement in the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa outside the Gujarat High Court in July 2010.

The agency had earlier summoned Mr. Solanki for questioning. Accordingly, he reported at the CBI headquarters on Tuesday morning and was questioned for several hours.

Mr. Solanki, who was earlier given a clean chit by the Gujarat Police in the case, was arrested in the evening. “He has been taken into custody and will be produced in a Special Court on Wednesday,” said a CBI official.

Jethwa had written to the Chief Minister earlier about threats to his life, according to CBI officials. Mr. Solanki was also an accused in several criminal cases, said the officials.

Jethwa had filed a petition before the Gujarat High Court seeking a crack down on illegal mining in Gir forests. The case was handed over to the CBI, after the High Court pulled up the State Police for poor investigations.
