BJP MLA surrenders

April 06, 2013 03:56 am | Updated 03:56 am IST - DEHRA DUN:

Arvind Pandey, BJP MLA, was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a Haldwani court in a case of criminal abetment during a protest demonstration at Kathgodam in Nainital district in 2005, official sources said here on Friday.

Mr. Pandey was sent to jail by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajni Shukla after he surrendered in the court, which had held him guilty of instigating a protesting crowd to block the highway near the Kalasiya bridge and disrupt traffic.

The Gadarpur MLA had ignored several non-bailable warrants served on him since 2008 and the court recently ordered attachment of his property if he refused to turn himself in.
