June 22, 2014 01:57 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:44 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Members of the Overseas Friends of BJP (OFB) cell called on Iraq Ambassador Ahmad T. Berwari on Saturday to discuss the safety of Indian nationals stranded in Iraq.

“We are very concerned about the safety of the Indian nationals in Iraq. We have been assured by the Ambassador that the authorities are doing their best to secure the release of those in captivity and to protect others in the various towns and cities of Iraq. The Ambassador said that while the situation in Iraq is grim, there is no threat to the Indian nationals as there is no ill-will that anyone bears against the Indian workers,” the global convener of the OFB, Vijay Jolly, said after the meeting here.

The BJP representatives were assured that the governments of both countries were working together to aid the Indian nationals.

“The Ambassador also assured us that reports of Indians having been attacked and killed were not true,” Mr. Jolly said.
