The BJP central election committee will meet here on Sunday to decide candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand Assembly elections. The two States are going to the polls in five phases beginning on November 25. The last date for filing nomination for the first phase is November 5.
Following its victories in Haryana and Maharashtra, the BJP plans to contest in the two States on its own, though sources said the party may also look at the possibility of tie-ups with smaller parties/outfits such as the National Panthers Party in Jammu and Kashmir and the All Jharkhand Students Union. Jammu and Kashmir has 87 Assembly seats and Jharkhand 80.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won three (Jammu, Ladakh and Udhampur) of the six seats in Jammu and Kashmir and 12 of 14 in Jharkhand.
