The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday launched an all-out attack on the Congress for accusing it of disrupting Parliament to block anti-graft legislation, tearing into Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
While Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley took a dig at the Gandhi family scion for keeping mum on corruption issues, BJP patriarch L.K. Advani flayed Dr. Singh for “having presided over the most corrupt government in Independent India.”
“A large number of members of the Congress party disturb the Houses every day. I don’t think Rahul Gandhi has had time to either come to the House or acquaint himself with the disturbance being created by his own party members,” Mr. Jaitley said, even as Mr. Advani took on the Prime Minister, writing in his blog: “Dr. Manmohan Singh began his tenure with a clean personal reputation. But as his decade-long tenure is coming to a close, he would leave behind him a record of having presided over the most corrupt government in independent India.”
“Not having spoken even once on major scams such as the 2G spectrum allocation, the Coal Block allocation, the Commonwealth Games organisation etc,” Mr. Jaitley said of the Congress vice-president, “he has only belatedly realised that corruption is a major issue in Indian politics.”
