A 35-year-old man attempted to assault the former Telecom Minister, Sukh Ram, on Saturday while he was coming out of a court in Rohini here after being sentenced to five years' imprisonment in a 15-year-old corruption case. The man, later identified as Harvinder Singh, was detained by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B.S. Jaiswal said: “The man was standing in the crowd on the court premises and was shouting anti-corruption slogans. When he tried to reach out to the former Minister with the intention of attacking him, the police personnel overpowered him. He was detained under the Delhi Police Act.”

The police official said: “During interrogation, Harvinder, a resident of Rohini, told us that he was inspired by Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Anna Hazare and that his blood would boil at the sight of a corrupt person.”
