November 19, 2010 12:04 am | Updated November 17, 2021 05:31 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Cabinet has approved an additional payment of Rs. 71.28 crore as ex gratia to 3,486 more victims of the 1984 Bhopal gas leak disaster.

This is in addition to the Rs. 669 crore of compensation payments which have already been approved by the government in June.

The additional beneficiaries include 1,703 cases of permanent disability, who will each receive Rs. 5 lakh, and 1,783 cases of temporary disability, who will be given Rs. 1 lakh each.

This will be paid after adjusting the compensation amount already received by these victims.

Another 42 people who suffered from “injury of utmost severity” will receive Rs. 5 lakh as well.

All the payments approved by the Cabinet were recommended by the Group of Ministers set up to deal with issues relating to the Bhopal disaster in June this year.
