‘Bhopal Olympics’ to counter London Games

Victims stage ‘die-in’ for removal of Dow as sponsor

June 28, 2012 12:54 am | Updated 12:54 am IST - BHOPAL:

Victims and survivors of the Bhopal gas tragedy staged a “die-in” protest here on Wednesday to “remind the organisers” of the Olympic Games in London that they have exactly one month to drop Dow Chemical as a sponsor of the event.

Starting July 27, the victims will also organise a set of games titled “Bhopal Olympics,” to coincide with the actual Games. Over 100 survivors of the Union Carbide disaster sat on “die-in” simultaneously, claimed the organisers, with protesters in London), Berkeley and Boston , and St. Catharines (Canada), seeking cancellation of Dow Chemical’s sponsorship.
