An accused in the auxiliary nurse Bhanwari Devi murder case, Shahabuddin, will be a free man for three hours on Thursday when his son gets married in a village near Jodhpur.

Shahabuddin, now lodged in the Jodhpur Central Jail on charges of kidnapping and later murdering Bhanwari Devi on September 1, had sought a month's bail for attending the marriage.

The mood of the current “sava” (auspicious season for marriages) seemingly prompted the court to budge — though only a little. The SC/ST Court of judge Anil Kumar Saxena in Jodhpur, which is now trying the Bhanwari Devi case, asked the jail authorities on Wednesday to allow Shahabuddin to join the family for three hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m..

The court directed the jail authorities to send out Shahabuddin with police escort and bring him back.
