Making its first arrest in the Ranaghat nun gang-rape case, the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department nabbed a suspect in Mumbai on Wednesday night. The arrested person has been identified as Mohammed Salim and is said to be in his early thirties.

The arrest wad made in South Mumbai and the operation was carried out in coordination with Mumbai Police Crime Branch. Salim would now be taken to West Bengal for further questioning.

The 71-year-old victim was raped by a group of men and the incident caused a national outrage with both the State and Central government being criticised for failing to stop attacks against Christian minorities. The suspects were also captured on CCTV.
