Team Anna member Kiran Bedi and noted lawyer Shanti Bhushan, who were arrested after the detention of social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday, have been released.

They were detained under Section 65 of Delhi Police Act, a senior police official said.

After her release, Ms. Bedi said she was initially told by police that she was detained for violating prohibitory orders which falls under Section 188 of CrPC.

“I think there was a rethink after I asked them under which section they were detaining me. They told me it was for violation of Section 144. Then I told them that I am not going to give a personal bond.

“This might have prompted them to have a rethink and invoke another law so that they can release me,” she said.
