Twice in the last 10 months, BCCI president Shashank Manohar took firm decisions while terminating and renegotiating contracts with International Management Group (IMG) and ordered IPL chairman Lalit Modi to scrap the first tender bids (to ensure two more franchises for an expanded league from 2011) at a General Council meeting. “Manohar hit hard on Modi's style of functioning in that meeting,” said a GC member.
BCCI officials have hinted that Mr. Manohar may be seriously looking at ‘BCCI Rules and Regulations' 32 (vii) (Misconduct and procedure to deal with). It says “Pending enquiry and proceeding into complaints or charges of misconduct of any act of indiscipline or violation of any Rules and Regulations, the concerned Member, Associate Member, Administrator, Player, Umpire, Team official, Referee or the Selector (including the privilege and benefits such as subsidies to the Member or Associate Member) may be suspended by the President from participating in any of the affairs of the Board until final adjudication. However, the adjudication should be completed with [in] six months.”
Mr. Modi, Inderjit Singh Bindra and Rajiv Shukla were the only three IPL officials seen at the closing ceremony of the DLF-IPL III at the D.Y. Patil Sports Stadium. Senior BCCI officials, including Mr. Manohar, were occupied at the Cricket Centre, Churchgate, till 7.30 p.m.
