Batuk Gathani, foreign correspondent with The Hindu for more than 45 years, passed away in London on Friday evening, surrounded by close family members.

Born in Nairobi to a Gujarati business family, Gathani reported for the paper from across the world, first from Nairobi and then Beirut, before moving to London. He also worked as the paper’s Brussels correspondent for a period.

After retiring Gathani continued to be an active member of the Indian community in the U.K. and the Indian Journalists Association.
