The BJP staged a demonstration near the Congress headquarters here on Monday demanding that Sonia Gandhi apologise for calling the Batla House encounter of 2008 ‘fake.’

The protesters demanded that the Congress president direct her apology to the family of Delhi Police special cell Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma who was killed during the encounter, after “proof surfacing about the connections between IS and the terrorists involved” in it.

Workers of the BJP’s Delhi unit assembled at the roundabout of Man Singh Road, when the police attempted to prevent them from marching towards the All India Congress Committee headquarters.

However, the BJP workers breached the first set of barricades, leading to the police using ‘force’ which led to two persons fainting and another sustaining an injury in her eye.

Preventive custody The BJP claimed that as many as 800 workers, including local party chief Satish Upadhyay and Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel, were placed under preventive custody.
