Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit India in the second week of April at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The schedule of the visit was disclosed after Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar called on Ms. Hasina at her parliament office on Thursday. A source said the visit would take place “most likely after April 8”. The news was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s deputy press secretary Nazrul Islam.

The visit will focus on mutual interests and development initiatives along with issues of connectivity, Mr. Jaishankar was quoted as saying.

“We can solve any problem through discussion if we have good intention,” Prime Minister Hasina told the diplomat. She also put emphasis on increasing connectivity between the countries as well as strengthening cooperation for the welfare of the people of the two countries.

Ms. Hasina’s visit to India was earlier scheduled for December but was postponed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bangladesh in June 2015.

Earlier, Mr. Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon from Beijing and was received by his Bangladesh counterpart Shahidul Haque and Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla.

Mr. Jaishankar met Mr. Haque in the evening and reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation.
