Badaun gang-rape accused pass polygraph test

The lie-detector test results of all the five accused earlier arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the Badaun “gang-rape” case have given them a clean chit, as no “deviation” was detected in their assertion that they were innocent.

The focus has now shifted to the parents and relatives of the two teenaged cousins, at whose instance the UP police had registered a murder and gang-rape case and arrested brothers Avadhesh, Pappu and Urvesh Yadav besides Constables Chhatrapal and Sarvesh Yadav.

“Experts did not find any deviation in their replies given during the polygraph tests,” said a CBI official, adding that reports of the lie-detector tests conducted on the victims’ parents, a relative and an eyewitness are awaited.

Following a public outcry over the incident in May, the UP police had registered the case and made the arrests. However, the case was then transferred to the CBI in June. The agency has come across evidence indicating that the parents of the two victims had made attempts to conceal certain crucial facts pertaining to the case. Subsequently they came under the scanner.

“At this stage, we are probing all possibilities, including the ‘honour killing’ angle,” said the official, adding that a final decision on the fate of the five arrested accused would be taken once the probe is complete.
