Mr. Nagar, who held the charge of Minister of State for Dairy in the previous Congress government, is accused of raping a 35-year-old married woman at his residence in September last year.

On Friday, district and sessions judge Virendra Mathur rejected Mr. Nagar's bail plea, the former minister's lawyer Amar Singh told journalists here.

The CBI prosecutor requested the judge to refuse bail to Mr. Nagar because the trial in the CBI court had yet to start and till then it was necessary that the former minister be kept in custody.

While rejecting the bail plea, the judge observed the crime was of a serious nature and the injuries on the victim's body could not be ignored. He took on record the victim's statement, taken earlier in September under section 164 of the Cr.PC, and said the trial in the CBI court was yet to start.

A 35-year old woman had accused Mr. Nagar of raping her at his residence in September. While he resigned from the post of minister two days after the police registered a complaint against him following a court order, Mr. Nagar was arrested more than a month later in October after the case was transferred from the state CID-CB to the CBI.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Mr. Nagar last month, after a special CBI court rejected his bail plea on December 4th.
