DMK Parliamentary Party leader T.R. Baalu on Wednesday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi here and complained against the former TNCC president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, for his frequent anti-DMK attacks on public platforms.
Though Mr. Baalu said the meeting was only to extend New Year greetings to her and was a courtesy call, DMK sources said the party MP reportedly conveyed to her that such statements by a senior Congress leader would not help both the organisations in the election year.
“Will create bad blood”
It would only create more bad blood between the cadres of the two parties and strain the relationship at the lower level, he reportedly told her and sought her intervention to make Mr. Elangovan, a former Union Minister, mend his ways.
This is not the first time the DMK is expressing its unhappiness over the attitude of Mr. Elangovan to the party high command.
Last year too, a similar complaint was made and later Congress general secretary in charge of Tamil Nadu, Ghulam Nabi Azad, asked TNCC leaders not to make such statements.
DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on August 24 last welcomed Mr. Azad's warning.
“[Ghulam Nabi] Azad's remarks are in conformity with alliance dharma. I welcome it,” he had said.
