“I am awaiting a reply from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to my letter of resignation,” said Solicitor-General Gopal Subra maniam on Monday.
He took the decision as he felt hurt by Communications Minister Kapil Sibal's action engaging a private lawyer in the Supreme Court to defend him in a 2G case.
Meets Moily
On Monday, Mr. Subramaniam met Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily and apprised him of the situation.
Talking to The Hindu , Mr. Subramaniam said: “It is true that I met the Law Minister, but I am still awaiting a reply from the Prime Minister.”
Asked whether he was firm on his resignation, he said: “I can say anything only after receiving a reply from the Prime Minister.” To a query why he felt hurt, he said that since he was engaged by the Prime Minister for the 2G cases, appointing a private lawyer was not fair.
Absent during hearing
Mr. Subramaniam, who had been appearing in the 2G cases so far, was absent during Monday's hearing, and senior counsel Rohinton Nariman appeared for Mr. Sibal.
Additional Solicitor-General A.S. Bharihoke appeared for the Centre in the place of the SG.
Moily meets PM

Mr. Moily, who met Dr. Singh and discussed the issue, spoke to Mr. Subramaniam, but did not press him to withdraw the resignation, sources said.
“A decision will be taken in the next two-three days,” Mr. Moily said. “He [Mr. Subramaniam] is on our panel and we had hired him [Mr. Nariman on July 9] for the limited purpose of appearing before the Supreme Court on the affidavit filed against Mr. Sibal.”
