Wife of Jaspreet Singh, the Indian who was allegedly set ablaze in Mlebourne by a group of four men last week, has questioned reports that claim his injuries could be self-inflicted.

“Why would he burn himself? Why would he do that?” Paramjeet Kaur said while reacting to media reports doubting Mr. Singh’s injuries to be self-inflicted. “I do not know why they are saying that,” she said

Mr. Singh, suffered 15 per cent burn injuries during the attack in Essendon on Friday night. He is stable but unable to speak, Ms. Kaur told The Age.

Meanwhile, police are waiting to question Mr. Singh again.

Some of Mr. Singh’s clothing have been recovered but other items remain outstanding, the police spokeswoman said.

Victoria Police said on Saturday the incident did not appear to be race-related. A police source said “there are things that don’t add up” in the initial reports.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said that all possibilities would be investigated.

It is believed the arson squad has been called in.
