Assam youth carries body on bicycle

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the Directorate of Health Services to rush to Majuli and probe the circumstances in which a youth had to carry the body of his relative on a bicycle from a hospital to his village.

The instruction came after television channels aired images of the youth taking the body of his relative on a bicycle from a hospital at Garamur in Majuli to Balijan village on the river island.

No road

The youth said he was carrying the body home as there was no proper road and there were many bamboo bridges en route, making it difficult to take the body in a van.

Majuli, the largest river island in Assam, is represented in the Assembly by Mr. Sonowal.
