Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday said Maoists had been trying to set up a base in Assam for the past three years.
However, he claimed, his government foiled the attempts through security measures and by taking the administration closer to the people in the border, remote and inaccessible areas.
Though the Union Home Ministry was yet to say anything officially on Maoist activities in Assam, it was equally vulnerable like other States, Mr. Gogoi told journalists here.
Asked if the United Liberation Front of Asom or any other militant outfit in had established links with Maoists, he said all militants were the same and they tried to help one another in subversive and anti-national activities.
About Tuesday's Maoist strike in Chhattisgarh that left 74 CRPF men dead, Mr. Gogoi said such casualties occurred when there was slackness on the part of the security personnel. I
n the past, there were similar instances of personnel walking into traps laid by militants in Assam.
