A shower of flowers greeted cartoonist Aseem Trivedi on Wednesday as he emerged from the Arthur Road Jail here following the grant of bail by the Bombay High Court the day before.
The cartoonist’s arrest on various charges, including sedition, sparked a nationwide outrage. He was given a hero’s welcome by members of India Against Corruption and the media. A battery of camerapersons mobbed the 25-year-old Trivedi the moment he stepped out of the jail.
The IAC supporters waved flags, raised patriotic slogans and hailed the cartoonist in a grand display of support. Traffic on the road outside the prison came to a standstill for nearly half-an-hour.
‘Law must go’
“The agitation against sedition will continue till Section 124A is repealed. This fight was not limited to my release. It is for all those people charged under this Section,” the Kanpur-based cartoonist said.
Mr. Trivedi led a sizeable crowd to the nearby Buddha Vihar, where he lit a lamp before the statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Gautam Buddha and paid his respects.
