Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has denied that his family used a Navy helicopter to attend a wedding in Goa this past week.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Mr. Jaitley refuted the allegations made by a Goa-based social activist and lawyer Aires Rodrigues, claiming that Mr. Jaitely's wife and daughter were flown in a naval helicopter on December 23.

Describing the allegations as entirely false, Mr. Jaitely said as claimed by Mr. Rodrigues it was not his wife and daughter who were in Goa. “Firstly, it was my wife and son (not my daughter) who were in Goa on 23rd December. Secondly, they did not use any governmental facility, least of all a naval helicopter. Thirdly, Manohar Parrikar, the Defence Minister, had not sanctioned the use of any Defence helicopter for them. In fact, since it was a purely a private visit, Manohar Parrikar was not even aware of the fact that they were in Goa,” Mr. Jaitely said in his statement.

Mr. Rodrigues had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order an inquiry into the alleged misuse of the naval copter.
