The Modi government on Monday blamed the previous United Progressive Alliance government for the rise in prices with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley closing a short duration discussion on the subject in the Rajya Sabha by asserting that the prices were under control and there was no need for panic.

Mr. Jaitley pointed out that his government had inherited the legacy of price rise and had taken immediate steps to contain prices as compared to the UPA government which had stepped in to check onion prices only it touched Rs. 100 per kilo. He was replying to a discussion in which over 25 members from all parties participated.
