The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) on Friday claimed that it has emerged as one of the major air ticket vendors in less than a month into the new venture.
Being the largest e-commerce site in Asia-Pacific, the IRCTC said, it sold through online over 1500 tickets to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh a day.
On May 5, 2010, the IRCTC started an air ticketing agency, offering a 10 per cent cash-back package.
The IRCTC said it has also excelled as a service provider in tourism, rail ticketing and hospitality sector across the country.

I experienced IRCTC to book air tickets on two occasions. It is excellent and also very prompt in giving back the 10% money back without delay. Excellent service. Keep it up.
On what basis have the Railways decide to bring this rule into play? It is not fair to us agents. I as an agent also am not to book any tickets in tatkal. Have the railway thought about how I will feed my family, my sustenance is only because of my being an IRCTC agent.
Total disaster. We thought IRCTC was with us. First they provided rail and now air. It was a boon. It helped us provide basic necessities to your family. But now this will be a hit to your families. The decision of IRCTC to ban the agents is completely wrong and has no ground. What is the congress government upto. First so much inflation and now this move. Where will we poor people go. This is a blunder. Please help us
I completely agree with Mr. Khurana. I'm also an Authorized Agent for IRCTC. Now I really find myself in trouble; I'm losing out on major business. Moreover I'm losing my customers who were dependent on me. It was these customers through whom I used to earn & feed my family. Now I face crises situation, hoping that IRCTC looks into this matter soon.
I think this is an excellent decision by IRCTC. Those who need to book on internet can now easily book on the internet without the need for paying the extra 200 or 500 rs the agent was charging. However, I feel the IRCTC must have a dynamic system of say 30-40% of the ticket bookings, where the rates fluctuate on a daily level, much like the airlines, this way IRCTC should also make sure only a few tickets are available every day.
For me the option is - double the tatkal tickets, seperate the servers for agents and individuals, put some seats as priority for individuals and some for agents, this way both agents and common would be happy.
