In space agency’s 100th mission, PSLV puts 2 satellites in orbit
A Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C21) blasted off from here on Sunday and placed two foreign satellites in orbit, accomplishing the Indian Space Research Organisation’s 100th mission, a milestone in the country’s space journey.
After a 51-hour countdown, the PSLV lifted off at 9.53 a.m., two minutes behind schedule, to avoid any collision with space debris.
In the textbook launch, it carried SPOT-6, a 712-kg French earth observation satellite and injected it into an orbit of 655-km altitude, inclined at 98.23 degrees to the equator. Proiteres, a 15-kg Japanese microsatellite, was put into orbit as an additional payload. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a host of dignitaries watched the flight path on electronic screens, as the 44-metre tall PSLV accomplished its task, reinforcing the fact that it is the ISRO’s workhorse, with 21 successful missions in a row.
The four-stage ignition and the injection of the satellites into the orbit took 18 minutes and 37 seconds. As Proiteres separated at the final moment, the scientists erupted into joyous applause.
SPOT-6, an optical remote-sensing satellite capable of imaging the earth with a 1.5-metre resolution, is built by Astrium SAS, a European space technology company.
Proiteres is meant to study the powered-flight of a small satellite by an electric thruster and to observe Japan’s Kansai district with a high-resolution camera.
With Sunday’s mission, the ISRO has launched 62 satellites and 38 rockets. It has so far injected 28 foreign satellites into orbit, beginning with Germany’s 45-kg DLR-TUBSAT aboard the PSLV-C2 in 1999. SPOT-6 is the the PSLV’s biggest commercial lift so far. At a press conference, Dr. Radhakrishnan said the financial matters relating to the launch could not be disclosed, but the cost of the vehicle was recovered. The ISRO also sent its own payload, ‘Mini Resins,’ for demonstration of an instrument called Redundant Strap down Inertial Navigation System.

Congratulations to the entire team of PSLV-C21. Mera Bharat Mahan
hearty congratulations to entire pslv-c21 team for this success
Taking this opportunity to pay homage to the revered memory of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai; who was the great visionary of the nation and instrumental in building the ISRO dream. The vision he articulated for ISRO “To be second to none in the application of advanced technologies to the real problems of man and society”; in my opinion is still relevant and does inspire every scientific mission. . ISRO as an organization is a proud and valuable asset to the nation. My whole-hearted greetings and congratulation to ISRO, on this significant milestone
congrats to radha krishnan sir and entire team of pslv-21
In these times of despair when the country is dealing with multiple dark issues, it is a delightful break to get this news about the achievements of the ISRO. Thank you ISRO, we are proud of You.
Congrats to ISRO Team.
Hearty congratulations to all ISRO team!!! I Hope they continue the good work in future.
Congratulations to ISRO Team
Hearty congratulations to all ISRO team
It is very fantastic event.
Many many^100000 congratulation to entire team of ISRO.
Heartful congratulations to ISRO
congratulations.
all the best to ISRO to do more like this type of success...
congragulations....team
Congratulation to all these scientists at ISRO...
While 100 successful missions is a laudable landmark, it cannot be denied that the PSLV is 20 years old. Somehow ISRO seems to have fallen behind in GSLV, newer engines and other technologies during the last decade. All those programs are running years behind schedule. Hope ISRO is able to make amends soon by speeding up those projects.
We are Proud of ISRO Scientists, Who made this success.
Hats off to ISRO..
Awesome! Some of the few reasons so smile and be a proud Indian!
I would feel happier when the basic needs of the common man such as clean water, uninterrupted power, corruption-free government are met. What are we trying to prove launching one rocket after another, when our roads are full of potholes and people defecate in the open, due to lack of basic sanitation?
great news for all Indian.. all the best ISRO !!
All the very best for upcoming launches.
Expecially to CHANDRAYAAN-2.
while PSLV launching, i am very proud of that. this is another milestone of india. congrats! WHO ARE ALL INVOLVED IN THIS MISSION.
ISRO should be congratulated for scoring century
India is India, what a Historical Record of ISRO Teams? Wow, Super.
Congratulations! Very, very proud of our scientists! Well done ISRO!
While the ISRO's successful launching of its 100th space mission is by itself a highly laudable one, the fact that, in the process, it successfully placed in orbit the French pacecraft SPOT 6 and the Japanese micro satellite PROITERES fills every Indian's heart with pride and joy. Heartiest congratulations!
Congratulations ISRO scientists.
I'd also like to connect this news with the recent ISRO false espionage case where in the man who developed the Vikas engine for PSLV(phase II) was charged with cases like leaking vital defense secrets and his life was tarnished. The 100th space mission of ISRO is an achievement which we are celebrating very late in the day. Mr.Nabinarayanan, the man who built the Vikas engine was in charge of the Cryogenic division which would have made our dream of making a Cryogenic engine(not yet achieved) years before. The Indian representative of the Russian space agency K. Chandrasekharan, was also charged in the case which makes it even more suspicious of the involvement of a deliberate attempt to delay ISRO missions as Russia and India was having a cryogenic trade issue opposed by USA. Incidents like this should be seriously dealt with. What would have happened APJ Abdul kalam was caught in such false case??
I congratulate the persons involved in the mission for their perfect output which enabled india a prestigious position in the space programme. But I think some one of right authority should have correct vision of utilising such satellites for the benefits of india. Report says that Japan is sending the micro satellites for the better supervision of one district. why india is not taking such steps by observing the forests, coastal area, border area etc.Huge expenditure is on army deployment in border area which can be limited.Anyway excellent job....
Keep it up. We wish you many more success and achievements. We join
together with the proud team of ISRO in celebrating this achievement.
Proud of our scientists.Wish them more succeses so that the whole world
salutes them.
Hearty congratulations to the team of scientists who are behind this
great achievement. There is absolute need for India for such events in lot in future. Jai Bharat
My hearty congratulations to all members, scientists and all others of ISRO and its allies for
the fabulous launch which I had intensely watched with tension. Though we have faced
success very often in Pslv launches the number 100 is something to cherish and which
makes a nation proud and lift its head in the global community. Hearty congrats again to Dr
K. Radhakrishnan and all folks at ISRO and all Indians.
BRAVO. We should now concentrate in GSLV, Moon & Mars missions & setting
up a permanent space station
bravo, isro!
keep it up! proud of you!
When can we go for a successful MARS mission?
GO INDIA GO
It is amazing achievement. Congratulations! Many more milestones we shall cross!
If India can make such tremendous progress in space and nuclear field, what is that these two organizations are doing right that others not doing. Bad roads, bad electricity supply etc. can be fixed if we can have more organizations like this in India. Its time to examine their recipe for success. Congratulations ISRO.
With the success of the commercial launch. From now on it should become self relaint with little help from Government.
We would like to see similar success in GSLV's too.
Proud of PSLV and ISRO's success.
Wishing ISRO all the best in future endeavours.
Historic! Congratulations to our ever inspiring scientists at ISRO..You did every Indians proud...All the best for the Mars mission too...Jai Hind!
In our india very good scientists are their....keep going on..... iam very happy.Because, iam an indian...
india is very quickely in ''vallarasu'' all the best
Hearty congratulations to the team of scientists who are behind this
great achievement. There is absolute need for India for such events in
lot in future.
Congratulations to the entire team of PSLV-C21. Mera Bharat Mahan.
