U.S. wants to surround China: Buddhadeb

Stating that the United States wanted to involve India in a strategic alliance against China as a part of its policy of ensuring control over the Asia-Pacific region, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said here on Saturday that the Left parties would never accept it and continue to oppose ‘imperialism.’

During the day, thousands of supporters of the Left parties marched in a rally through the city in protest against ‘imperialism.’ Carrying banners, flags and posters appealing for peace, they walked for hours as the rally wound its way from Rani Rashmoni Road to Deshbandhu Park.

Addressing the rally, the former West Bengal Chief Minister spoke about the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

He outlined the U.S. policy in the Middle-East, “which is driven by America’s hunger for oil.”

“They [the U.S.] are now eyeing the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China. Earlier they were bullying North Korea and now they cannot handle China’s success. Their new strategy is to surround China and bring in the full force of their military might…And they also want to involve India in this,” Mr. Bhattacharjee said.

Mr. Bhattacharjee warned that American intervention was increasing in all spheres of activity in India, extending from economic matters to food security and even education.
