Activists brand them illegal Bangladeshi migrants
Ninety-eight migrant labourers were dragged out of a train and assaulted, allegedly by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members, at Mandya in Karnataka late on Wednesday night.
The activists terrorised the labourers hailing from West Bengal, Orissa, Rajasthan, Bihar and other States for nearly two hours before dragging them out, claiming they were “illegal Bangladeshis.”
The labourers were heading to Mangalore on the Yeshwantpur-Kannur Express.
Scores of passengers remained mute spectators to the assault, even as the labourers pleaded that they were headed to the coastal city to seek jobs at construction sites.
The activists were returning from a convention in Bangalore.
The ordeal for the workers, 66 of them from West Bengal and belonging to various religions, began soon after they boarded the general compartment of the train in Bangalore at 8 p.m.
The activists started questioning them, Bishnu Babu from West Bengal told The Hindu. They also started raising slogans against Bangladeshi migrants.
“Without allowing us to explain, they started searching our baggage and pockets. Most of the people were cheering and laughing,” Shyam Sharma from Odisha said.
This torture continued till the train reached Mandya. The activists dragged all the labourers out of the train and in full public glare, kicked and punched them.
The Mandya police have detained nine persons in connection with the incident.
Government Railway Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Meer Arif Ali said the police would book criminal cases against them.
The police, after collecting details about the labourers, organised special vehicles and sent them to Bangalore.
“We gave protection to the labourers and sent them to Bangalore,” Superintendent of Police Koushalendra Kumar said.

What the central commitee of BJP thinks to his type of segregation?
Why the citizens of a country can not move inside their own country?
Dear Sumanji, the development is going on under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Jadav in our states.
Wish a rapid growth of our states for avoiding this type of humiliation.
Actually even we people are to be blamed for voting these politicians to power and then they misuse the power given to them....
They can't find job in their state? what jananetri Mamata Banerjee is
doing?
Better now for ABVP to Re-Christine its name as ABDF,which means
AKHILA BHARATIYA DESTRUCTIVE FORCE,for this would aptly suits for
its destructive ideological attitude. Why the govts at the helm
turning a nelson's eye against the unscrupulous activities of this
organisation by submitting it mere spectator despite being their
over activeness in disturbing the fabric of the federilism,it is
not understood. The culprits should be given exemplary punishment.
now where people goes who raise voice for North people, police and minister, now it is clear that who had actually spread panic on behalf of other.
In this type of activities only poor people suffer, whether they
belong from Bihar,UP,Orissa, west bengal or Chhattisgarh.Biharis are
the most common to be crushed and humiliated in any part of this
country.People from developed states don't want to understand them.
They only need them for making their state most developed. It is known
that only poor labors from these states take minimum salary and build
their prestigious buildings, bridges, roads and other infrastructure. It
is unfortunate that this type of cruel behavior is done to them.If LAW
of this country permits inter-state movement for livelyhood, their
migration is not questionable........or you change the law and don't
allow anybody to go for earning anywhere.
Time will come soon when migration from these states will stop.We
can only pray for them.
Close on the heels of north-east exodus yet another sad episode which shows the true colour of our nation-which boasts of unity in diversity. Also, this is not the first time that the student-political-wing organisation, ABVP, indulging in moral policing, causing violent protests.Even, either Central or no State govt has taken a stringent action in curbing these social evils, thanks to vote-bank politics. It would be great if "The Hindu" would have published this news in the Front Page so that it could have got more attention.
If the similiar kind of incident would have happened in a PUB, then all the Elec.Media would raise hue and cry as if heavens had fallen.
Its the Indian Railways bhai, anyone can do anything on the train. But no need to worry. The RPF will come to you, or whats remaining of you, when you reach your destination and do justice to you by taking the strictest possible action by booking criminal cases against the aggressors and leave the case there. After all they have many other trains to catch and file cases.
I am not at all surprised by this turn of events. This is India. This is what we have turned into. The walking dead. If we abuse, attack and kill our own compatriots, we kill our very own soul. We Indians are on a path of self-destruction.
Sad. The impunity with which such groups seem to operate is disturbing.
ABVP activists offensive attitude is to be strongly viewed and all
necessary action should be taken on the persons involved. How can they
beat poor workers? Do they mean to say that the other state people
should not work in Karnataka?
Somehow i am not surprised by the incidence. This is the what happens when hooligans start taking over the country. Instead of walking out of the parliament if the BJP would spare some time making there youth wing understand that they are not the rulers of the nation, they would have a better peace in the nation than what they can think of.
Who gives them the athority to decides who is a legal migrant and who isn't. This is sheer Madness!!!!
Vigilantes always are a problem and solve nothing.
This has been shown repeatedly in many countries.
Also, when any government becomes ineffective for any reason, vigilantes arise.
Who had given power to question the migrants? Shame on our society! We
need them to construct our buildings, clean our sewage,do our
household work. We claim ourself to be developed cosmopolitan
societies. It is the savage, aristocratic mindset and the superiority
complex, which we nurture, which we can't give up even after, we are
educated and economically forward. We proclaim lot on Mahatma Gandhi
and Swami Vivekananda. Our nation needs not only Ambanis, Tatas and
Maliyas. It also need these poor fellows, who sacrifice their esteem,
life and everything so that we have good metropolitan life.
!
taking law into our own hands is becoming more common, primarily because the govt. agencies are not efficient. And both the facts are deplorable.
what a horror and a shame ! So we can all become judge jury
executioners in our country and decide who's in and who's out;
decide who is wrong and who is right ; and decide who is legal and
who is illegal. Thank you Indians for standing by and watching .
Thank you Indians for cheering the maltreatment of another human
being . Tomorrow it can be you or me at the receiving end - your
children or mine who suffer at the hands of such "justice". Thanks
to the police and politicians who have made this a lawless land and
for the spines that we are all born without . I am bitter and angry
that goons and goondas rule my land , because I dare not speak up
and ask for better !
What is this? Have we lost all rationality?. Nobody should be permitted to law in thier own hand. Even if the migrants are from bengaladesh, it is for the law enforceing agencies that has to take action.
Students should not behave like angry animals.
Authorities should swing into action. Where are they?
Before this thing get out of hands, people holding power should pay
attention to this precarious situation and enact tougher and effective
laws to prevent attacks by a mob. New law should give power to the
victims to use lethal force. In a big country like India, the police
cannot possibly be everywhere to protect the citizen -- please give
victim power (they already have right) to defend themselves. "Stand
your ground" laws have made USA a safer place to live, such policy will
do the same for India.
Bunch of brain-washed souls attacking the hapless poor in search of jobs.
Catch the culprits and put them at a construction site of their place
of choice.Let them do some physical work. Then only will they understand
the pain of poor workers.
If ABVP does RPF's job, why do we need RPF? Where are they sleeping/relaxing when some group do non-sense in railway stations in Bangalore? This is enough to prove that LAW is very weak in India and any group can take LAW into their hands. State has lost its meaning. Thanks, Kumar
Is this the same ABVP which was requesting Assam brothers not to flee
Bangalore in Bangalore railway station? Was that publicity gimmick? why
this partial and selective brotherhood?
Ever since BJP got the ruling power in Karnataka these communal parties
are acting like no body is there to question them?
Few days of headlines in news papers and things will be the same again.
Hoping atleast now these miscreants are punished properly.
"When ignorants are taught to doubt, they never know what safely to believe", said Justice Late Oliver Wendel Holmes of the US Supreme Court.
Antisocial elements in the name of nationalistic organization. ABVP
should immediately remove these members from the organization.
What a shame for country and state.
These people so called activist don't have any right to provoke violence against any group of people..
If they suspect they can detain or inform authority to do appropriate
verification...
whatever happening in the name of religion or regionalism is pure
politics and people behind this are need to teach some lesson instead
of wasting police for against peaceful protester like Team Anna...
Lets bring back India culture of tolerance, equality and respect for
all...
wow great SP. i appreciate his Job but the question is remain that what
is Going on in this nation?
Gujarat is repeated here in Karnataka. Communalism is repeated like in
Gujarat. Even if they are Bagaladeshies they are human beings and
Refugees. They have every right to protect their livelihood as human
beings and migrants. Stop this kind of Communalism. Enough is enough.
These are crimes upon humans. People have to rise up against this kind
of crimes. Inspite of the migrants repeatedly said they were from from
West Bengal they are being attacked. Let us respect human beings
trying to survive as migrants and refugees all over the World.
These people are bringing shame to the fair name of Kannadigas and to the religion they profess to belong.
Whatever the reason, nobody gets to assault others. How can the people
be so insensitive?
ABVP's actions don't seem any different from that of the Taliban in Afghanistan even as the police agencies remain weak spectators. This incident clearly shows that ABVP is a threat to the internal security of our country.
