The police have arrested a leader of the Arbinda Rajkhowa-led pro-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) from Nalbari and four others in connection with a case of dacoity, abduction and murder that occurred on July 31.
Senior Superintendent of Police A. P. Tiwari said Sarania and five others were involved in the dacoity at the residence of businessman Rajan Lohia of the city. They were also involved in the murder of a domestic help and abduction and murder of an employee of the businessman.
Two other accused in the case are absconding.
Hira Sarania, a self-styled commander of ULFA's 709 battalion, joined Arabinda Rajkhowa and other pro-talk leaders when they initiated the peace process with the Centre.
