Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday asserted that “stern steps” were being taken to stem the violence in Korakjhar and lower Assam.
Strongly refuting the statement made by opposition party All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) that he had failed as a Home Minister to contain the violence, Mr. Gogoi told PTI “In fact all steps have been taken to restore normalcy”.
“Rumour mongering is high. I will appeal to the people to maintain calm and we are taking all steps to maintain normalcy,” he said.
Altogether 77 persons have lost their lives in the clash between Bodos and immigrants and more than four lakh people rendered homeless.
“Of them, one lakh have returned home and we are ensuring that more persons come back,” the Chief Minister said.
“We have reviewed the situation with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and hopefully everything will be in order”, he said.

In the situation of when the idiosyncracies are diminished and the collective suffers, what are some of the steps that are being adopted for the psycho-social rehabilitation of the afflicted individuals? They cannot continue to remain neglected, while the long-standing political dichotomies and dilemmas are sought solutions to!
In spite of the rhetoric and counter-rhetoric, the fact is that 77
precious lives have been lost both due to the ignorance and
sentimentally of the perpetrators as well as due to the
shortsightedness and opportunistic politics.
Using force etc, can at some cost bring down the situation under
control but unless and until the root cause is addressed, the
situation is only likely to rise again.
