Four more persons fell victim to the fresh wave of violence in lower Assam districts, triggering protest by locals who blocked National Highway 31 at Beltoli on the Kokrajhar-Dhubri border on Tuesday.
With four more people being killed, the death toll in the ethnic violence in Assam has climbed to 73.
The violence between Bodos and minorities has claimed 47 lives in worst-hit Kokrajhar district, 17 in Chirang, 4 in Dhubri besides 5 killed in police firing last month, officials said.
In the worst-affected Kokrajhar district, three persons were killed and two others injured when some persons opened fire on a group of people at Ranibuli village late Monday night.
The two injured were rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
Assam IGP (Law and Order) L R Bishnoi told PTI here that the dead belong to Lakhiganj in Dhubri district.
To protest the killing of the three persons who allegedly belong to the minority community, a group of 500 people blocked National Highway 31 at Beltoli.
Indefinite curfew has been reimposed in Kokrajhar district while round-the-clock curfew continues in neighbouring Chirang district where one more body was found early Tuesday morning. The body was recovered from a field in Rajapara area, senior police officials said.
A few houses were burnt down in Chirang but timely action of police prevented any major violence Monday night, Mr. Bishnoi said. A person has been arrested in this connection.
“Security arrangements are in place to ensure that no more untoward incidents occur,” Assam Police IGP (Bodoland Territorial Area Districts) S N Singh said on Tuesday.
The Army continued flag marches Tuesday morning in the three districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri, hit by clashes between Bodos and Muslims.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old in the Chhatipur LP School relief camp in Chirang died allegedly due to lack of timely medical attention, camp inmates said. The child had been unwell for the past five days. With this, the number of people who have died in the relief camps has risen to 14.

"violence between Bodos and minorities" Why you use the word "minorities"?
Are the "Bodos" form majority in the world or in India?
We give comments as to how USA should have reacted to Sikhs but cant we
look into our own country? Its been more than a month and the situation
is still tense. Such situations GOI should take tough decisions against
the riot mobs irrespective of the vote banks. If only on the first day
the Army/GOI took severe steps that would deter the other parties as
well.
can't Govt. suppressed this type of violence!
I think dirty politics is responsible for this fact. plz leave ur political mind....
The Congress ruled Assam govt has failed miserably. More than 4lakh have
been rendered homeless in less than 10 days. It is worst than Modi's
Gujrat & still the so called secular print media, electronic media & the
intellectuals are having a good night sleep & not saying a word against
the Congress govt.
It is a matter of shame that after so many days of the eruption of this communal violence, Assam govt is so far failed to control the situation. The govt. who likes to blow their trumpet of success in every occasion possible should have taken stern steps to save the lives of many innocent people dying everyday for no reason. The people of Assam would have been glad if the govt act as much sincerely as in the time of election to bring out the people of the affected area from the misery.
People select govt to protect them, not to sit in AC rooms to watch people bathing in blood. Hope the govt will take the lives of innocent man more seriously.
Assam state governtment MUST call for an emergency and more RPF personnal shall be deployed in the rural areas of Assam to stop the mass murder. And if that can't be done, we as Indians must stand in shame for two minutes on the coming independence day.
Vote to the rotten political party all time.. they are the freedom fighters.. India will shine like this every second..
The central govt. and state govt. as well as Home ministry are unable to maintain law and order in Assam.
The Govt must probe whether the ISI is involved in this communal violence.
Though the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) area has a history of ethnic clashes including a number of serious clashes between people of Bodo and Muslim communities, the administration failed to apprehend the situation despite the fact that simmering tension was brewing for some time and the lynching of two All bodo minority student union leader and reaction after four bodo youth death near Kokrajhar town resulted in the situation flaring up.Yesterday five dead body found which was minority communities. Today also four Muslim people killed by NDFB or EX BLT in open fire. now Central as well as state government totally failed to stop killing Minority people. I think CM Tarun gogoi has lost the right in the position of power.
the fragile part assam is suffering badly. who to blame politican why
the goverment always negoitate the assam. they cant see that assam is
burning.
it is not the first time assam is burning inspite of all violence .the
two national party blamed each other for this casuse and inocent people
are dying
it is seen that the govt. is blamed for every problem forgetting that to
maintain peacefullness every elements of a society must have perform
their own responsibility.
It is good that Hindu is at least showing the story. Under congress rule ethnic cleaning is taking place for BODOS. and the congress government
is at the helm of all.
Very unfortunate that even after so many years of calling ourselves
independent and secular, we are engaged in such acts. More unfortunate
that the government is not taking adequate measures to stop this!
The Assam govt. has failed completely to control the violence. It
is a national shame.
ASSAM : 65 persons have lost their live in Assam. Even it has not been controlled despite the fact Army has since been deployed after one week of ethnic violence. Please Govt act fast and stop the killing of innocent people in our own country. Hope solace will soon come to hear that there is normalacy and no untoward
incident. Without Prejudice.
One of the reasons for this mindless violence is that much of North-Eastern India is still living in the past and nothing of the "development" of the Rest of India has reached there. I have visited parts of Assam and seen for myself, how these places are still steeped in superstition. There is no respect for life, probably due to the extensive consumption of meat. Many of them indulging in such violence are unemployed youth. Sending more and more troops would not help in any way. On the contrary, opening new establishments, in an effort to modernise and industrialise would create more job opportunities and positively contribute for the region as well as the country.
