He will be patron to a new formation that will provide the nation with political alternative
Social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday disbanded Team Anna that formed the core committee of the India Against Corruption (IAC) movement and assumed the role of a patron to a proposed formation that would provide the nation with a political alternative.
On his blog, Mr. Hazare said the core committee was formed to facilitate talks with the government on the Jan Lokpal Bill. But the government was not listening to it, so it decided not to talk to the government any more.
“We observed fast [for four times] to make ourselves heard, but the government is not interested in bringing in a strong law against corruption. The movement launched to ask the government to set up an effective Lokpal has been withdrawn, but the movement for coming up with an alternative and finding the right people will go on,” he said.
Some would say Mr. Hazare distanced himself from the “preparatory committee,” being conceived after the decision to enter electoral politics, but the activist insisted that the movement would continue as long as it was dedicated to the cause of the people. “The day I find that members of the alternative party have allowed power or money to go to their head, I will withdraw the movement,” he warned.

All Political Parties were surprised that the citizens dared to
protest; for now they have killed it.
Media reports:
(I). Citizens - easily exploited: 1. half the nation can’t feed or
clothe itself 2. widespread illiteracy, 3. many religions (non-Hindus
pitched against Hindus), 4. Caste enshrined & exaggerated (Hindus
pitched one against the other using real & manufactured caste-
divisions), 5. cat 3 & 4 voters lured with of communal privileges, 6.
All voters bought with money and goods, 7. educated voters are also
bought, eg a timely doubling of pay before election.
(II). Democracy: (i) political parties are ruthless family businesses
for private gain & power, (ii) widespread nexus between legislature,
executive, judiciary and big corporations (iii) ruling parties
exercise absolute control over country.
(III). Indian media (incl TV): largely political party & big business
owned? – cheerleaders to misleads citizens?
Long live India – the largest democracy, the emerging superpower.
Sir,
The concept of eradicating "corruption" is the need of the
hour. However since it is rooted so deep into the system of governance
that rooting out totally is difficult. Those who have tasted the
"sweet" cannot stop it easily. The "Andolan " to work against it was
started last year and it galvanised people. But in the interim , the
movement did not receive the required momentum and lost the steam. The
second effort to restart the movement did not receive the attention it
deserved and Government also did not pay heed to the fast untertaken
by Anna. The team Anna thought that the better method would be to
start a political party to be more effective to bring about changes.
But a party without any grass root base and financial strength, may
not succeed soon. It takes long time to realise the goal. A sudden
decision to form a party needs lot spade work and strategic planning
for it to succeed. It looks that the Anna Hazare was too much in a
hurry.
I will blame the indian media ,first to promote him beyond heavens and then to see him doing a free fall .We dont have a responsible press.Period.
Annaji., It is good that you disbanded your team. It was not a cohesive
one. People initially thought that you could lead the people of India
against corruption. Now they have realised that the conviction of Team
Anna is gone. Starting a political party is an ill conceived idea.Your
mission has failed so soon.
I think its a rational decision in a democracy, we have histroy to learn from. JP launched a party post emergency but it was hijacked by even corrupt people. Hope this time around we get it right!
Go Anna Go!
Best of luck!
If only Gandhi had succeeded in disbanding congress then , possibly
India would have been a much different country
Kudos for your team.
Mr. Anna and Kejriwal- What is this non-sense of disbanding of core team ....It looks like contemporary government had played there game before your(our) political alternative.
Moreover, comparing last aug-11 movement, this time (aug-12) it resembles a little weaker. so please, be wary of making any autocratic statement to media, which further aggravates faith on you.
It's easy to start a political party in India. There are hundreds of
them, big and small. Most are designed to or end-up perpetuating
dynastic, family and personal control. Here are some family brand
names associated with national and regional parties: Gandhi, Yadav
(Lalu and Mulayam Singh varieties), Karuna Nidhi, Jayalalitha, and
Thackeray. Then there are off-shoot varieties all across the country:
Nationalist Congress Party, Trinamool Congress, JDU, etc. These
parties have structures and practices designed to perpetuate personal
and dynastic rules. They account for over 300 MPs in the Lok Sabha and
constitute ruling majorities at the Center and states such as UP,
Bihar, Tamilnadu and Mahrashtra. There is no accountability and
internal democracy in these parties. Even CPI, CPM and BJP lack
internal democracy. How Anna's party will be any different? To start
with, it would need a constitution like, say, the British Labour
Party, that provides for internal democracy and decentralization. It
should also explore term-limits for leadership positions both in the
party, legislative bodies and executive branches of government. It’s
crucial that Team Anna takes time to put a democratic structure in
place. Otherwise, this party will look like Nationalist Congress Party
or Lalu’s party in no time.
It is a mistake to form a new party and it is not the solution for anything. Indian politics is littered with good intentioned party starters. The anticorruption movement should stay independent of poltics and focus on its agenda of educating people on fighting corruption by all means possible. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If history is any guidance, Greeks when faced with corruption of the same magnitude in all walks of like we are facing today, ended it by making death sentece the only punishment for corruption. Think about it. It will work.
I sincerely hope that Mr Hazare and the members of the former team
Anna core committee will abide by what they intend. The entire nation
urgently demands a corruption free government and Mr Hazare was the
man to inspire everyone from youths to old men.Forming a political
party as a political alternative to Government's indifferent attitude
may help and is definitely a new approach but it will solely depend on
whether the people selected by Anna ji are indifferent to lucrative
power and money or not.It may be the beginning of a new phase in this
revolution but it depends completely on the intentions of the people
selected.
GO ahead Anna ji, We will definitely support you....
If a new party is formed, based upon the popularity and electoral
prospects, you will be find politicians jumping into it like crazy and
it will be old wine in new bottle and in the end, after elections,
they go the same route as they did with Lokpal bill. Men and women of
our country take advantage of this opportunity and form party locally
and align with Anna's party and try to contest elections and not that
you have better prospects immediately in 2014 but show your presence a
little in Parliament and work against corruption as much as you can
and your tribe will grow step-by-step in long run and replace the most
popular and corrupt politicians and end us in Ram Rajyam, even if it
takes 100 years.
Anna has initiated the movement and it is our turn to move it ahead
and make it success and it is not possible for Anna to do everything
and you can do it.
Well, this is the best way to dilute a non-partisan national movement
against corruption and it is quite evident that Anna Hazare is no
Mahatma Gandhi. Transformation of the movement to a political party is
the best way to kill the anti-corruption movement because maintaining a
political party is an expensive affair and soon the party leaders will
have to knock at the doors of those commercial companies which is the
first starting point of corruption, unlimited. S Rajendran
LOKPAL is a political wisdom of 1947 .. Now it has no relevance . Now we have better technological systems to minimize corruption. Make everything transparent by restructuring Information systems . without relay on people’s integrity and lesser cost an foolproof system can be implemented .
Media should learn lessons not to pour lot of attributes to empty pots
Anna Hazare should go to different parts of India to arise people for Lokpal bill. Only carrying out fast in Delhi is not good enough unless until whole India gets attached to it.
A big goal requires equaly bigger effort
If you can't beat 'em join 'em :). I guess they chosen a tougher path
but the appropriate one. Urban voting is down to 50% of less. If this
new party's agenda can attract the youth and the young professionals -
that can bring them to the voting booth's at least - and that'll be a
good enough start. Whatever the agenda of the new party it's going to be
a long hard slog for them. Despite poor numbers @ the latest fast, there
seems to be implicit support from a cross section of society to their
cause.
Corruption is the root cause of India's backwardness, as is now being exposed by Satyamev Jayate.
Watching the dismal performance at the Olympics by a nation which has 1/5th the population of the world, one feels sorry. Nepotism, misuse of govt funds and corrupt govt officials have lead to this. It is likely to stay like that till corruption stops, starting from the highest level. We have to take the problem of corruption seriously.
It is good move. In fact, Gandhiji wanted to disband congress upon
India attaining the independence since the task for which it was
created was achieved... but unfortunately many didnt agree to it...
maybe we would have been better off had it happened at that time...
The real democracy in my view is something that should operate at the
community level - greater interaction at the village level to higher
up - on the issues that really impact the community - the action
points should take into real needs of the community. But so far I have
never seen any politician or a party spending time with the community
and then come up with a manifesto, and implement it... There is a
greater disconnect between what is the need and what is being
provided..Hope Anna's team doesnt not follow the current practice but
rather make a difference by involving people more for whom the laws
are made and for whom the programmes are developed... Today we are
terming materialistic gain as development! It cant be!
Anna supporters are confused now. Can Anna form a political party with
people of impeccable credentials? What if some of them turn out to be
corrupt after getting elected? Where will he get the funds to run a
political party of national level? If he too follows the same path of
collecting funds from the corporate sector then what difference there
will be between his party and the others? These question are raised in
every Anna supporter's mind. But on the other hand it is also a fact
that no political party is ready to promulgate effective anti
corruption law which will genuinely help in curbing corruption. The
politicians argument that bills can only be passed in parliament not
at Jantar Mantar. But when all the elected M.Ps decide to stonewall
the passing of the Lokpal Bill what else could Team Anna do? With
this political set up one cannot hope for an anti corruption act with
real power as majority of the politicians are dependent on black money
to win elections.
I will vote Anna Hazare to bring a change and fresh life to Indian
politics since all parties are stinking very badly right now
There are lot of contradictions in few sentences that Mr. Anna has
uttered.
1. Did he expect that govt. would come running to him the moment he
went on strike? If yes, why did he join the fast after 4 days?
2.Why did he say 'there should be no single jail in the country which
is not filled by his activists?
3. He says that "now" people wants to leave fasting. Who are those
people?
4. Now there is no 'Team Anna'; but he says the movement will
continue..by whom?
5. Send good people to Parliament.. who decides whether a person is
good? Are the disbanded Team Anna members good?
I think this is best way to send good people to parliament. Doing fast every time does not solve any issue we should always had an alternative and in my opinion this is the best alternative team anna had choosen. all the best Team Anna.
And to think of the ways in which this story has been twisted by the
media. There are several news channels out there which says Anna has
developed cold feet and disbanded the team to stop getting into
politics! Seriously appreciate The Hindu for bringing in the right facts
at the correct time.
A step in the right direction. Team Anna was missing using the name of
Annaji for there own personal gains. Now they will realize how well they
are recogonized individually without the backing of Annaji.
Mahatma Gandhi toured all across country for bringing masses into the National movement to make India independent. For Passing of Anti corruption law now Anna hazare has to awaken good people to fight and win elections such that more than 50% seats are captured in both the houses of parliament by Anna inspired candidate. If Anna blood is in minority in parliament then it will be of no use and Jan lokpal bill even if introduced million times will face the same fate as it has last 4 decades.
Annaji we always admire your decision. We know your motive behind debut a political party. We are always with you. Keep it up!!!
The decisons taken by Anna Hazare to disband 'Team Anna' and not to resort to the self-imposed punishment of fasting in future, for forcing the government to yield to their well-intentioned demands, are welcome ones. The proposal for the formation of a clean party and nomination of uncorrupt, well-deserving persons to Panchayats, local bodies, state legislatures and parliament is also a welcome one. Impediments might be there enroute but with earnest efforts and spontaneous public support, the objective can be achieved. People are certainly fed up with corruption which is widely prevalent in the country.
Why Anna Hazare confused us all. Now he must do come with a new political party at the earliest.
In a country of 1.2billion people there is a strong need for truly independent body user-friendly to the people to address their grievances at no cost. Team Anna movement was one of the hopes in this direction but their decision could certainly lead to formation of a new political party and could potentially use the same survival approach as the other existing parties and may go far away from the real goal. Many parties were formed through some movement in our history claiming to benefit people but all primarily benefited their party managers and most of them are behave like kings to the people who elected them.
who is going to rescue when the insecuirity and the injustice comes from with in home. the leslature which forms the poliies has to be the devoid of the corruption and the illpractised so as to endow the nation with the policies which are the fare and in inteste of the nation.the vision should be the retify the cause of the problem not to keep on beating for the temporary rectification. the constitution of the india has facilitated the flexibility to both the constitution and the legeslature. when there is the provision for the change then why not the people stands up for the change .in order to wipe out the dirt from the pit lower down in the pit and clean it. simply standing on the side and throwing stone will ulimately spill mud on yourself.in order to renew the sole of the legeslature we have to revive it with new and the visionary people at those parliamentary seats no at the jantar manter.pople with true spirit should move to there..parliament ...only there is the solution.
Change in approach not in goal for team Anna i.e bringing the democracy
to gross root and to provide corruption free and transparent
governance.Let us hope for a much needed change in system which is with
each passing day adding discontent and bringing deprivation to the
general masses in the name of development and economic growth and
serving only few vested interests.
Since the inception Team Anna was going nowhere. It is good that you have given up.
Whether Anna goes political or not, if anti-corrupt people wage a war
against corruption (stop giving bribe at any cost), country will get
cleansed very soon. Hence, it is not in the hands of politicians or
political parties or not even in Anna but in the hands of honest
people viz ourselves.
If Anna could unite whole country to fight corruption, it is not that
hard to unite honest people of a street to fight corruption if the
situation warrants more than one individual in a given case.
Instead of forming a political party, Anna Team could form an
association with branches through out the country in helping
individuals, groups to fight corruption by taking up their cases free
of cost.
This is a practical way of fighting corruption and this will enthuse
people to come forward and join this movement which later on could be
converted to a political party at the appropriate time. Even this can
educate people on voting.
Anna has taken the wisest decision to wind up Team Anna lock, stock and barrel realising that it would be an Himalayan task to cleanse the team and even dropping the few in his core committee who were really an apology for his ideals impossible. Now that he has managed to succeed to wade out of his team and the movement,it would only be ideal for him to become an Advisor from home instead of a leader in fast.
After all,the entire nation and Anna in particular know fully well the result of the selfless efforts and sacrifices made by the great JP and where the nation stands today as far as corruption is concerned!
A great Utopian escape route in the garb of political solutions to his cherished ideals which Anna has grabbed with both arms.Of course he knows for sure this is a distant possibility but it can carry him on, up to the 2014 election booths with intermittent rallies and a few day fasts. Not only Anna nobody can save the country as the multifarious maladies are really malign!
Anna is having clarity on party and his role if his core team decided to form alternative. He should continue his movement if would he be interested in sending good people to parliament to ensure Jonlokpal bill. In the present muscle, money and cast dominated politics would he be going to get good people who give fierce fight to regular politicians without spending money above the norms fixed by election commission. In such condition is it possible to win by Anna candidates in 500 plus constituencies if decides to contest in all the parliamentary seats across nation. One or two or dozen of MP’s is not enough to pass Jan Lokapal bill in the existing political condition he should must have the sizable number of representatives to stall the session in order to passing the bill. For that at least should have minimum 40 to 50 MP’s from his movement and its so difficult for him in the current condition as our voters are heed to regular politicians tactics and those who supports and talks and
It is definitly a good move provided that the new party members doesnt get diverted towards the lucrative power and money. As our country is full of usefull resources hence it is very difficult to restrict oneself in public service only. In my views this is one of the root causes of corruption in our country.
Go ahead Anna Hazare and colleagues. The whole nation (except corrupt and sychophants of corrupt ) is with you.65 years(Time since Independence from British Imperialism) is a long time.we can't allow corrupt ministers and crony capitalists to rule us any longer.we can't allow a group of corrupt ministers to cause a loss of 2 lac crore to the nation.we can't allow them to treat scarce national resources as their personal or ancestral property.Time has come for all of us to demand our birth right of living in a corruption free nation.we need a strong and independent mechanism(Lokpal) to bring these powerful and corrupt people to justice.
Anna Hazare and his team is putting commendable efforts in this direction.Arvind Kejriwal is a modern day Bhagat Singh who has sacrificed his career and is ready to sacrifice his life for the nation. The whole nation should "arise, awake and do not stop till this goal is achieved."Go ahead countrymen, support the movement, victory will be ours.we will be free from the imperialism of corrupt just the way we got freed from imperialism of Britishers.
This is the way to go
