More than 20 hours after the country’s worst power failure, the three major electricity grids that had collapsed have been restored, Power Grid said on Wednesday.
The northern, eastern and north-eastern grids were restored by around 09.30 hrs on Wednesday.
Triggering a massive power crisis, which brought most parts of the country to a grinding halt, the three grids collapsed at 13.00 hours on Tuesday.
According to state-run Power Grid, 100 per cent supplies have been restored in all the three regions.
“System restored to normal state,” Power Grid said in a statement. Full power supply of 30,081 MW has been restored in the northern region, including Delhi.
Eastern region, which caters to 10 States and has the largest infrastructure in the country with at least 25,000 MW generation capacity, was the last one to be restored.
“In the eastern region, 100 per cent or 11,052 MW supply has been fully restored,” it said.
Even though the exact reason is yet to be ascertained, officials said that problems started in the eastern grid and there could also have been overdrawals by some States.

In Guwahati, Assam at present there is a power cut every other hour. 1 hour electricity is there and another hour its not and this pattern continues throughout the day! There is no word from authorities on when this issue will be solved. They do load-shedding after approximately every 1 hour and expect us to "adjust" with it as part of daily life. But why should we??? Its really unbeleivable that its 2012 and we do not even have basic amenities like electricity, water etc.
In a lighter vein ,'The Government of Manmohan Singh is powerless'. Seriously, this is a total failure of management and indicates lapses in the system of governance. In addition Mr Shinde's statement, in a midst of sufferings and hardship of over 600 million Indians, that grid has failed before and grid also failed in the USA,is utter arrogance and callous disregard to peoples woes imposed due to this avoidable failure.A crisis of such a proportion is taken casually in a typical style,'SUB CHALTA HAI'.This is also an insult to the Indian people that the power minister having failed in managing 'power' is promoted to become home minister.Whereas, the Prime Minister-the head of the government did not make any statement to assure the people that he will look into lapses of this failure, fix the responsibility, punish culprits and see that it is not repeated in future .Is it not that the Prime Minister, being an unelected Prime Minister of World's largest democracy, has no such obligation?
