“Remark made with an eye on Gujarat Assembly elections”
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s provocative comment that he should be publicly hanged if anyone could prove that his government was complicit in the communal riots that ravaged his state in 2002, has drawn fire from the Congress. Union Ministers on Thursday said Mr. Modi’s remark was made with an eye on the Assembly elections due in Gujarat at the end of the year. They pointed out the difficulty in delivering justice, given that no FIR had ever been lodged against the Chief Minister even though a decade had rolled by since the state-sponsored pogrom had taken place.
In an interview to Urdu weekly Nai Duniya, edited by the Samajwadi Party’s Shahid Siddiqui, Mr Modi said: “ ... why should I apologise? If my government had done this, I should be hanged in public in such a way that it remains a lesson for the next 100 years so that nobody dares to do it [such a crime].”
Responding sharply, Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said: “If an FIR has not been filed against the Chief Minister of the State for the last 10 years, how do you hold him guilty? Who is going to hang him?” Mr. Sibal said Mr. Modi had made this statement keeping the forthcoming Gujarat elections in mind.
Law Minister Salman Khurshid told journalists: “I don’t think that we, either in the streets can decide, or Modi can take a decision by himself. I don’t know about him, but we all have faith in the courts of the land that they will do what, they believe, is the right thing to do.”

Kapil Sibal please mind your own business. If you look at the past
congress history we can clearly see the massacre's at different points of
time.
What an audacity ! I guess shamelessness begets more shamelessness. Mr.Modi's comments are a slap on the face of restraint showed by many law abiding citizens who work hard and live in harmony peace but have not been able to hold genocide facilitators like him accountable. This is a slap in the face of multi-cultural plularistic India and is an open challenge from Mr.Modi to Indian law and order apparatus that nothing can touch him despite the ugliest horror unleashed in ethnic cleansing of Muslims in recent history. Let us all law abiding Indian from all religions and walks of life join together and hold Mr.Modi accountable so that indeed the next 100 years would indeed be free of such arrogant evil politicians who use communal feelings to only further their political careers. Lets make India free of the political facilitators of communal violence an unspeakable disgusting destruction of human life, honor and property.
It is already too late, but let us bring justice late than never.
One thing Mr. Sibbal is admitting: Filing an FIR is must. I do not and can not support Mr. Modi on Gujrat riots. But equivocally, I request the central government to allow FIRs to be filed against Mr. P. Chidambaram and other who are blamed for 2G scam. However, I know that neither the Gujrat Government nor the Central Government has any interest in bringing main culprit to justice. The irony is that only the government can act (legally).
The law says, all are innocent until proven guilty!. In the case of Modi, the public media
connected to the ruling party generated a mob hysteria using innuendoes and assertions to
stain his charector for ever, mock-convivicting him in the public mind, so that he would not
emerge himself as a political opponent to the incumbent party. It is well known that Modi can
be a real political opponent against the Congress party with a winning edge. The dirty
business department of the party in office is active and doing overtime to counter this threat.
They are embarking on a well proven method of charector assassination as the preferred
method to counter this emerging political threat and many in the media, for their own reasons,
are in collusion with this process. If one looks at the history, Gujarat riots were not the only
riot in India since independence and no one is morally held responsible for any of the other
events! Interesting!!?
1984. For Rajiv Gandhi, how many FIRs, pray, were filed ? How many
investigations were made to determine the failure to contain the mass murders ?
Will the Congress Lawyers enlighten us why NOT ONE person has been convicted
of these murders ?
Yipe, I have been holding my breath for last 28 years !!!!
Khurshid is fair, and as a law minister, competent to comment. Why is his comment hidden,
and the hostile if not delusional and provocative Sibal's highlighted?
