UPA Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said he has been making appeals to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee every day asking her to vote for him.
“I appeal to her almost every day...that is for her to decide,” Mr. Mukherjee told reporters when asked if he would appeal to the Trinamool Congress chief, an UPA ally at the Centre, to vote for him.
Ms. Mamata is yet to take a decision on her party’s position on the Presidential poll to be held on July 19.
Mr. Mukherjee, who is here to drum up support for his Presidential bid, met the legislators of the ruling National Conference -- Congress coalition, opposition PDP and three independent MLAs.
The former Union Finance Minister said his meetings were part of thanksgiving to those political parties which have extended support to his Presidential race.
“I am meeting only with those legislators who belong to the political parties which have extended support to me and I am meeting their leaders also,” he said.
“I decided and it is also the practise that I visit the states to express my gratitude and offer thanks to the political leaders, members of the state legislature, members of the Parliament for extending their support to me,” he said.
Mr. Mukerjee later drove to the residence of former state Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed where he met the top leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
On the issue of capital punishment, Mr. Mukherjee said he can not voice his “personal opinion”.
On Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Mukherjee said he “would like to definitely see that this beautiful state gets its most rightful place, it is developed to the full potential.” “Of course, within the parameters of Constitutional functioning and Constitutional responsibility, this is my desire to see that the full developmental potential of the state is being exploited,” he said.

Mr Pranab Mukherjea seems to be a shameless person as his key policies as Finance
Minister with regard to GAAR and retrospective tax laws are being reversed by the
Prime Minister, no sooner than he had quit and he does not have any qualms to
worry about it and protesting the matter with the High Command. Instead, he is
touring the country for support to his candidature from MPs and MLAs even from
other parties like TMC as well. It is surprising, in case High Command was also
unhappy with his GAAR stand and retrospective tax laws of Pranabda, why is he then
being nominated for the post of President ? Is it a reward or punishment ?
In keeping with the dignity of the highest seat for which he is in race,it would be better if Pranab gives up making repeated requests to Mamata seeking her party votes in his favour. The more he is appealing to her,she becomes further high headed and arrogant. It is time Mamta is singled out and left to lament at a later stage for her adamant attitude.
I don't know why he appeals to Mamata for her party's vote, when he has contacted all the MPs and MLAs personally. He is cunning no doubt, but intelligentsia also has limit where as honesty is beyond that. Who can say that he is not doing some permanent nuisance to overcome a temporary hurdle. It is he who said the post of President is offered not sought for. Now to protect the offered post what he is doing is really a new experience for me a 63 years old. Yes, there were some chaos in one or two President's Election previously, but those were managed by the different Party representatives never by the candidate.I am not sure if I'm competent enough to comment as I'm honestly not that educated or socially acknowledged still I feel this time Damage to the dignity of our country's highest chair is already done, he has done this even before chairing the chair where as to kill the economy he had to take much more time. He is a man of political science not economics. Let god save us.
These regional parties think Indian democracy "LOOT KA MAAL".Looterers
should be dealt with iron hands to stop demeaning our constitution.
What is the need for daily appeal, when the 'numbers are in his favour' ?
Does he expect Trinamool Congress chief would take a last minute u turn? If she does
so,having made known her stand in the matter abundantly clear, how will her staunch
supporters who have been a vital force to unseat the Left from power after it played a
marathon innings spanning over three decades, will continue to support her?
