The JD(U) on Wednesday took a dig at Home Minister P Chidambaram over his controversial ice cream remark on price rise issue, saying the truth had “accidentally” come out from the mouth of a “supporter” of market forces.
“It is right. What wrong did he say? But Chidambaram is also a supporter of market forces and that is why he used the ice cream imagery. How many poor eat ice cream?
“In fact a small truth has accidentally come out from the mouth of a supporter of market forces while he was actually trying to defend them,” was the refrain of Mr. Sharad Yadav to Mr. Chidambaram’s comment made on Tuesday.
The Home Minster had said in Bangalore on Tuesday that people are prepared to pay Rs 15 for a bottle of water and Rs 20 for a cone ice cream, but protest against rise in wheat and rice price.
The BJP had lashed out at Chidambaram for his remarks saying he has shown insensitivity.
Mr. Chidambaram on Wednesday expressed shock and disgust over “deliberate distortion” of his statement in the media about middle class attitude towards price rise, saying he did not “mock or chide” anyone.
Mr. Yadav said that he was surprised why noises are being made about prices of food grain and vegetables only, when prices of all commodities used by common man are on rise.
He, however, rued that even the price rise of foodgrains is not helping the farmers and it is the middlemen who are benefiting.
“Nobody talks about rise in prices of television, refrigerator and car. But when foodgrain prices rise, people make noise. Even in case of foodgrains, the farmer gets a pittance while the middlemen are the actual beneficiaries. It is the government’s job to check such middlemen,” Mr. Yadav said.
The JD(U) chief said that so far as difficulty faced by the poor in buying foodgrain is concerned, they can be provided some buffer like foodgrain as wages in MNREGA or the same at lower price on BPL cards.

Mr.Chidambaram knows and all the miniters know that the gain in rise of
prices of food grains is not reaching the farmers but it is taken away
by the middle men. Why don't the men in power in Govt check this
menace by dealing against them or eliminating the middle men? Because
the middle men are the henchmen of the politicians, they cannot take
action against them and hence the poor farmers suffer and also the
middle class people.
“Nobody talks about rise in prices of television, refrigerator and car. But when foodgrain prices rise, people make noise."... and he wonders why politicians aren't taken seriously.
the words of chidambaram is not right as major class of people are
middle class only in this country. i think it is difficult to survive in
class people. in order to fight for the rise in prices we have to
eradicate the middle man who is making black marketing of food grains.
the govt should take all the necessary steps to avoid such price rises
in our country.
Mr. Chidambaram is right. People are paying Rs.15 for a pot of water in many places.
Dear Mr. Chidambaram,
Rise in Refrigerator and Car doesn't affect the whole population, it only affects those who can afford it. But the rise in food grain affect each and every citizen (AAM AADMI). Please consider these facts also.
Thanks
These are ministers ruling our country, especially as Finance Minister once!!!! I doubt even God also cannot save people living in India with these politicians who do not have any brains.
