An angry crowd of around 1,000 attacked a police station in Kamathi town near Nagpur on Friday night demanding the arrest of people allegedly involved in a stone pelting incident on a mosque.
The crowd threw stones at the police station, and torched 13 police vehicles. A Deputy Commissioner of Police, a sub-inspector and more than 20 police constables were injured in the incident, according to the police.
On Friday evening, some people in the area attacked Mohammad Yunis Ansari near Ramanagar mosque when he was offering prayers, according to sources.
Police immediately arrested the alleged attackers, but a crowd of around 1,000 people gathered in front of the police station and demanded strict action against the culprits.
Some police officials tried to pacify them but some from the crowd started pelting stones at the police station, according to a press statement issued by the Superintendent of Police, Nagpur rural.
More than 30 people have been arrested for attacking the police station.
