Opposition nominee P A Sangma on Saturday sought the Election Commission’s intervention for a fresh probe into his objections against the candidature of UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee, levelling new allegations that he was still holding two more offices of profit.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the Returning Officer’s dismissal of their complaint, a three-member delegation on behalf of Mr. Sangma met the Election Commission, which gave them time to present their written submission on their demand by Monday evening.
After the meeting, Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy claimed that Mr. Mukherjee continued to hold two more offices of profit — as Vice President of Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology and Chairman of Rabindra Bharti Society, which forms the Rabindra Bharti University.
He said the delegation met the Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath and placed their concerns. The Constitution allows the EC to intervene in the conduct of elections.
“Here the issue is of fraud. Let the EC decide on whether there is a fraud in the nomination process. Let the EC take the final decision,” Dr. Swamy said.
The delegation, which also included BJP leader and Mr. Sangma’s counsel Satya Pal Jain and his election agent Bhartruhari Mahtab, raked up the issue of Mukherjee’s signature on his letter of resignation from the Indian Statistical Institute and its acceptance.
The allegation of the Janata Party President that Mr Mukerjee holds two more offices
of profit is a serious issue which should be thoroughly investigated by the EC with a
view to establish the truth or otherwise of the issue. This is not an ordinary matter
as it concerns the election of a person to occupy the highest office of the land .
Needless to say, such a person must, like Ceaser's wife, be above suspicion.
It is really sad that the person who is looking for the top position
of the Nation should be subject to the charge of "Fraud" in the
procedure adopted for filing the nomination. The President should
be above suspicion since it is in him that the Nation reposes
confidence for its well being.If the aspirant to this position cannot
prove that he is clean it is better that he does not desire for the
post...especially by aperson who has proved his worth in his five
decades of public life.
'IT is the time for Pranav Mukerji to retire from the public life and
take up to 'VANAPRASTHAM" where he will be doing penance for the
welfare of people and the Nation for which he had physically involved
himself in the last fifty years.
You can fool some people some time , you can fool all people some time.
But You can't fool all people all the time.
It's time congress party who has become a dynasty rule should be buried in india and
new party of Indian nationalist should come and take care of India's security.
The leaders of BJP have let all the sincere workers of the party down
by supporting a person like sangma who is resorting to cheap gimmicks
along with subramanian swamy. And
Narendra Modi is shown along side sangma to add insult to injury. We
consider narendra Modi as the next prime minister and in such case he
should not be shown along with people like Sangma and S.Swamy.
The party would have done better to project Mr.L.K.Advani as the
president of India and leave it to the conscience of the electoral
college to decide. That would have been a fair fight and our party
would have retained its credibility even if it had lost the election
