A district court in Barasat denied on Friday the bail application of international-level athlete, Pinki Pramanik, whose gender has been in question following allegations of rape against her, and remanded her in judicial custody for a further period, till July 12.
The Court has allowed the prosecution’s plea for conducting a chromosomal test to determine gender.

The court should learn that gender is about assumed roles with respect to society. It has little to do with scientific notions of sex. The 'gender misrepresentation' part of the case should be dismissed as it is meaningless.
