State Congress leaders , who had stated their “uneasiness” to continue their support to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, continued their attack on its ally. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for opposing the candidature of Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee for the Presidential post.
“So far she [Ms. Banerjee] was campaigning on Facebook to garner support for Mr. Kalam. Now, he has opted out the Presidential race. What will Didi do now?” Mr. Chowdhury said, addressing a public gathering.
Ridiculing Ms. Banerjee for “seeking refuge” in social networking sites to avoid criticism, he said she should bear in mind she is the Chief Minister to over 8.5 crore people.
Referring to the support for Mr. Mukherjee from other political parties, Mr. Chowdhury said the “one point agenda” of Ms. Banerjee has been to prevent him from becoming the President. Stating the “honeymoon” period of the government is over, he said people are getting frustrated with TMC’s performance.
