Gandhian hits back at PMO after it termed his team members anti-national

Hitting out at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for calling his team members anti-national, Gandhian Anna Hazare on Tuesday said that they should be arrested and punished if the allegation had any basis.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Hazare said the government had no will to bring in a strong anti-graft legislation.

“It is wrong to call me anti-national. If the government says I am a traitor, they have the powers to investigate. They have an intelligence network. Why don't they send me to jail?” Mr. Hazare asked.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy had stated on Saturday that Mr. Hazare was innocent, but was surrounded by antinational elements. He had also raised questions about the accounts of the amount of expenditure incurred during the anti-corruption agitation.

“There is no foreign hand involved in our movement. I have been clear about the expenditure. The audited accounts are available on the website,” Mr. Hazare said. He, in turn, questioned the Congress: “Your party also collects funds. Why don't you give the statement of accounts to the people?” he asked, adding that the government had no right to ask him about the expenses.

Mr. Hazare said the government was scared that his month-long Maharashtra tour was successful and was now trying to divert attention from the Lokpal Bill with baseless allegations.

On the charges of corruption that Team Anna levelled against 14 United Progressive Alliance Ministers, the PMO replied that there was a legal mechanism in place to probe them. Mr. Hazare asked why there was rampant corruption in spite of the mechanism. “One day the truth will come out. We have sent all 14 files to the Prime Minister,” he said.

Mr. Hazare said the people of the country had been betrayed. “At every stage of the Jan Lokpal bill, we were cheated: at the joint drafting committee, on the Standing Committee and then in Parliament. “People's opinion was never considered in the process of making a law. This is a democracy,” Mr. Hazare remarked.

On the allegation made by Mr. Hazare over corruption in coal block allocations, the PMO said: “All decisions were taken in the public interest on the basis of legal provisions and relevant policy in force.”

Mr. Hazare said: “It is clear from the CAG report that there was huge loss and somebody has benefited. Who are they?” There will be “no smoke without fire.”

Today in India corruption is an integral (like hunger, train accidents etc.) part of our system and we Indians have developed a kind of immunity for it - very sad. We have reached a point where accepting / giving a bribe is seen to be legimate and businesses see nothing wrong to have it as a corporate policy. We Indians (majority) are silent and crtitise Anna Hazare for not abiding by parliamentary rules. I find it very ironic that we have to rely on Kalmadi / Raja / Kanimozhi etc. to give a strong Lokpal. Someone please explin how Parlimanetarians will draft and pass a strong / effective Lokpal bill that will harm their own chances of returing to parliament in 2014 ??? Why will Lokpal be a priority for our Parliamentarians ?.....may be I am naive but I just cant see a reason for a Lokpal bill. "Corruption is my birth right and I shall protect it" - this is the motto of our parliamentarians - sorry Lokmanya Tilak but the India you fought for seems to heading in a unknown direction.

we laymen do not knew INC or Team Anna is handled from abroad. India has gone long way out of track from where it was dreamed to be. Transparency and faith in leaders have gone down too badly. It is Dr Manmohan Singh who gives hope with his clean image, may be controlled by others, but still...if he is not available...then who ?.....TEAM ANNA Cannot and will not gain that image from public.

In a democracy, the parliamentarians who are elected by the people make
the laws. If Anna expects his team to be considered as the voice of the
people, he is wrong. Parliament is the voice of the people, as
enshrined in our Constitution. Anna and nobody else has any right to
put together a piece of legislation and claim that their variety is the
popular choice. The Government's bill is the true people's bill. If you
want it to be changed, contest the election and join the legislature.

UPA becoming more and more insensitive now a days. Every single person in this country is getting affected by corruption in one way or the other. They are very keen to participate in any movement that vows to fight against corruption. I think UPA has conveniently forgot the fact that the whole country got erupted, when they try to confine Annaji the last time. People think& treat annaji is close to their heart who is fighting for their cause. People are very very sensitive and are very intelligent. They are silently watching and watching very closely of what's happening to annaji& his team. And how the govt. treats annaji and how he reacts to that. They will not spare anyone who ill treats annaji or his team. Coming elections will show what people's power is. Peoples power come in to fore then! Jai Hind!

Looking to the high rate of inflation and stagflation in India, the present Govt at Delhi is the worst by every test. All this beacuse the PM is looking th other way when confronted with allegations of corruption of his ministers. See what happened in AP. Does the Govt not know that Jagan ahs been amassing wealth under the nose of his benevolent father. For 8 months they dragged on investigation and after the bye-polls are announced they arrested his making him a hero overnight.
Govt is doing oo little and that by too late.It is time that we have a performing Govt. The present pack has to go lock stock and barrel.

We have never seen so many MEGA SCAMS in recent times in India. The nation's destiny is put in the hands of those who do not deserve that.Only God can save our country as none in Congress or their partners seems to have the interest of our Nation in their Priority List.

It is remarkable that Mr. Samy has not disclosed how many so called education trusts and charitable organisations he controls. Has he disclosed his personal income? That of his immediate family? and what are the sources of his immense wealth?
Secondly he says there are legal remedies against these corrupt ministers. But that is exactly what Annaji is asking. The government is the authority to ensure that law and order is maintained. So the moment it gets infromation that some crimes have taken place, it is the duty bound to investigate and proceed against the criminals. The government is behaving like thanedars. If one gives a complaint that some theft has taken place, they ask the complainant to bring the thief before them.

system created by them. Its a shame that there is nothing much that a

Anna is absolutely right. This admin has not only failed the people of
this country in handling the economy, it has also betrayed us by
trampling our aspirations of Lokpal, black money, graft, Kashmir,
Telangana etc etc . Let alone people's aspirations, it is unable to
sustain its own flagships of NREGA, nuclear bill etc.

sh. Anna Hazare has hit hard the core group of the corruption in the country and shaken the coterie. Only a person with clean intention could take it and respond postively.just Countering allegations but not ready for investigation, by persons possessing all constitutional powers, have clearly exposed them. This all was as expected, but country is watching with tight fists.

'Conspiracy theory' has been the Congress's last resort whenever cornered . The UPA2/ Congress is in power & all the Govt agencies are under their control and available to them . So what stops them from investigating seriously the so called allegations against "Team Anna". 'Conspiracy & attempt t destabilise the nation " are serious allegations and so why is the Govt going easy on it then ??
Infact at the 26th MAY press conference , when the allegations and proof against 14 Ministers and PM were discussed with the press , Kejriwal had categoricaly said , "the PM may iniiate any investigation against team Anna members and if found guilty , award double the punishment ". Why doesnt the press/ media , highlight this point ?

We dont know how hindu claimed him as a ghandian. When sarath pawar is
attacked, this man justified that. How come he can be a ghandhian. He
changes his statement everyday. One day he says Prime minister involved
in corruption. Next day he says, he is a good man. Greatest comedian

@Anna Hazare:I respect what you are doing for the nation. But a small
tip would help. If The Hindu can publish Wikileaks revelations over four
months in its editorial section, why dont you give the 14 files to THE
HINDU and make it a common public knowledge ? It is otherwise very
difficult for us to express our verdict during the next election without
any solid evidence. At the moment it seems both parties are just levelling charges against one another with the public being left to
wonder lonely on his couch ....

With day and day out counter allegations made by the congress party is
now ensuring that their days are numbered. They have already plundered
the country in all ways and still call them honest.People should teach a

Dear Anna, Do you earnestly think that ours is a democracy? Then, why don't you approach your representative to present your views, in stead of resorting to the streets as a self-styled representative of people's cause? Why do you insist that the people in power should act on your dictates? What are your credentials? You know very well that evenif you approach the representative he will not go by your words. He will go by the dictates of his party boss. So this is our democracy. We, the people, elect representatives; but they obey their party bosses. They don't represent our views and aspirations on issues concerning us. They need to satisfy the boss only; not the people. That means, there is no proper representation. There is no legal means to ascertain people's views on important issues. What the representative does is blindly taken as the people's dictate. So, dear Anna, fight for true representation. Leave the rest to the people. In this age, it is easy to get views instantly.

Anna may say that the government had no right to ask him about the
expenditure incurred during the anti-corruption agitation. But the people
of India have the right to know about it.Cash collection at the rallies
has become the the easiest method to hoodwink the people as well as the
law enforcing authorities. The crusaders of anti-corruption have also
learnt this trick from political parties.

Now the govt. is putting allegation an Hazareji for they have no intention to enact a strong lokh pal Bill in the constitution. What wrong is it to pass a strong the bill? Do they don't want india be free from corruption? Do they don't like India be prosperous country? How will they support strong lok pal since they themselves are corrupted. If their minds are pure why delay to pass the bill. Monmohan Singh is honest person but his ministers......

PM may(?) be honest personally but when he heads a cabinet with
ministers with glaring corruption charges with trillions of loss to
the national exchequer, he definitely is answerable to the general
public of India. If he cannot replace those ministers, let him better
quit the Govt. He is not congress PM, he is country's PM and his
credibility is at stake and so is his overall honesty. May be, now
there is now the dire need for a very strong LOKPAL bill that should
put every one including the PM under check. Otherwise, we the public
will remain puppet in the hands of these corrupt politicians.

I am not sure but there were some books released by former cabinet secrataries(rtd IAS) on PMO. The books if released may speaks volumes about PMO, a hub of ccoruption in India. How come a PM of a nation denies this? When his PA or PA of former PM's shared such experiences in public? Thanks, Kumar

Annaji they are the rulers and they can call you anti-national or not an indian national or a stooge of a foreign hand and so and soforth. but you have to carry on with the fight to end corruption and one day the people will realise how the indian money is stashed at foreign banks and who are those Great Honourable Indians who call themselves netas and has brought the economy in to a mess. god save this great nation bharat.

Being elected member of the parliament does not confer a right upon them to level any allegation against anyone. When at Jantar-mantar Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia commented on political leaders then
there were huge cries against them and many political parties and leaders had questioned for their language. As a matter of fact whenever Team Anna leveled any charges they have always tried to back it with supporting documents and reports. Now if PMO's office or any other minister levels any charges, they can and have rights to do so,but must place evidences in support of their charges.Calling somebody anti-national can be a big abuse if it is without any evidences. If their charges are proved certainly they should not be allowed to walk freely and create chaos amongst public.

It has now become a standard method of accusing "foreign hand" whenever
the Government gets into trouble. It started with Indira Gandhi and
clearly Dr. Singh and his team appeared to have learnt that trick. It
is extra-ordinarily shameful.
Well he is not the only one to use every trick in his bag to hide from
accusations. Richard Nixon did it when faced with Watergate; but truth
eventually caught up with him and he was sent home. The cowboy Ronald
Regan did that very successfully when faced with Irangate. And recently
the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair did that successfully when
he spread the lies about weapons of mass destruction regarding Iraq; he
got away with it too, but earned the apt name of Tony B Liar.
He may not end up in jail; but history will not judge Manmohan as an
honest man.
